Quirky spots that are ATL favorites
i love this city! on any given night u can stumble into a spot that will blow ur mind with their creativity..let me give u a few examples:
Sister Louisa's Church of the Living Room and Ping Pong Emporium

Sack Lunch Company
This cute little food stand is totally hilarious and at the same time so comforting and yummy..they are located in the heart of Downtown Atlanta in a small green building located in the Food District on Broad Street. Here's the kicker..u can get a sandwich, chips, a juice box and gushers and "Mom" will put a cool note inside ur sack lunch with sayings like "Wash your hands" or "Mom loves you"..It's nice being a grown-up but who doesnt love mama? :-)and u can even buy a snoopy lunch pail or other novelty items.. It's like being back in middle school except the kid at the next lunchtable won't be kicking u in the keister and taking your lunch..lol...supercool!

Cargill Gallery
Have you ever been somewhere and when you walk in it just feels like home? Well that's the warm and fuzzy feeling i get everytime i walk in Cargill Gallery. Your girl is a huge art fan...Wine, art, cheese and great conversation makes a great Sunday afternoon...I have artists that are my faves all over the city (for instance do check out Corey Whitehead!! he had a showing this weekend..amazing...http://www.myspace.com/funkysoulmovment)
But back to the reason for this post...This husband and wife art team are amazing artisians and craftsmen. I call them that because the art they make is not just images on a canvas..they make you feel the images...they have a network of artists that bring their wares to the gallery and they are equally as amazing..
I first learned of them as they have a neat little gallery tucked inside Northlake Mall in my hood here in Tucker. What first caught my eye was how amazingly affordable the artwork was!!! OMG..i have traveled all over the world collecting art..and let me tell you...some of these pieces are orginals and the prices blew me away at how reasonable they are...
I had the great pleasure of stumbling into their other Gallery location at Pleasant Hill in Gwinnet Place Mall...wow...the gallery is very cozy..it is easy to walk around in the space and see all the artwork in all its glory hanging on the wall..and the resident artist on staff and manager David(along with being adorable ladies) was so willing to do whatever to please the clientele..he does original artwork to your specification...and the deals are equally as refreshing..
run don't walk to this art oasis..There are three gallary locations throughout the Atlanta area to serve you:
Mall of Georgia - 770.866.9938
Gwinnett Place Mall - 770.866.9910
Northlake Mall – 678.830.8593

Southern Charm
I live on the NE side..love it! so traveling "down south" as we call it in the ATL is a treat..love that whole southern corridor...Fayetteville..Old Natty...College Park..Virginia Avenue...Hapeville..Morrow...it's all a stone gas for me and my crew...So just for my loyal readers and as a shout out to my folks in the Dirty Dirty here are my top spots for kicking it all points past Downtown:
Places worth the Drive to hangout for a day:
Palmetto - the houses in this little oasis of serenity are positively breathtaking..from the urban chi-chi lofts, Greencraft expansive homes, brownstones... to old fashioned mansions..this planned community is definitely worth taking a drive for...make sure you get good directions though, as it is off the beaten path but definitely worth the trip..esp if the Serenbe farmhouse is open for you to stop by and take a sip and sample some of their straight from their own farm to table concept
Newnan - one of my top faves down south for shopping..all the chain dept stores are represented including expansive reps of
TJ Maxx
Kohls
Target
Ross
Old Navy
AND a brand new mall..check out the strip mall on the opposite side of the highway near Walmart..it has a host of your fave chain restaurants which make Newnan a fun spot to kick it for a day
Fayetteville-one word..the Fayetteville Pavilion..it is shopping nirvana!
Old National Highway- Ok..i know what you are thinking..it is quite urban..and an adventure for the typical suburbanite..but Old Natty as the natives call it is coming up! down by the New Walmart they are freshening up this tried and true route...and don't miss Grown Folks and the Crowe's Nest for some real grown folk partying..and closer to 285 if you have a spirit of adventure the Discount Mall can reveal some heart stopping discounts...when you need something to chow down on...love Blue Crabs to go (Hey Ms. Linda!), there is a wing place in the parking lot of Throwbacks.. and that leads me to my other fave which is a stone's throw away:
Historic College Park on Main Street-The Feed Store..The Brake Pad..Noodle..The Pecan
Stop by! then roll on to:
Hapeville - Chic Fil-A Dwarf House..Jamaica Cove...Maritza and Franks...Buttersweet Bakery
And go see the renovation down to the old Ford factory..It's now lofts and brownstones!
Virginia Ave -Spondivits...Grecian Gyro...Michon's...Barbecue Kitchen..Simon's steak and Seafood
Downtown East Point- Q's restaurant...Thumbs Up Diner...E'Vans Bake Shop

Neighborhood Hot Spots: Cheshire Bridge
i know what you're thinking....Cheshire is just not visually stimulating..i mean it is a strip of businesses and restaraunts that is is stripped down to it's boxers...and i mean that literally based on some of the peep show businesses that are still hanging on in the area..lol....but although it ain't visually stunning there are some culinary surprises on Cheshire Bridge..places that you can tiptoe to if you are in the Emory corridor for lunch or dinner with minimal effort...and you can take a culinary tour around the world without ever leaving Cheshire bridge...lol...and did you know they just finished a "Tasting Tour of Cheshire" complete with a little trolley bus to spirit you around to different businesses? how cool! so do yourself a favor and ske-daddle over to Cheshire if you have a bit of time to hang out....and keep my list of faves handy..and as always i would LOVE to hear from you if there are any that i left off..until then Happy trails and good eating...and Viva Cheshire Bridge!...mama loves you..lol

Neighborhood Hot Spots: Cheshire Bridge
ok, ok..i know what you're thinking....Cheshire is not visually stimulating..i mean it is a strip of businesses and restaraunts that is is stripped down to it's boxers...and i mean that literally based on some of the peep show businesses that are still hanging on in the area..lol....but although it ain't visually stunning there are some culinary surprises on Cheshire Bridge..places that you can tiptoe to if you are in the Emory corridor for lunch or dinner with minimal effort...and you can take a culinary tour around the world without ever leaving Cheshire bridge...lol...and did you know they just finished a "Tasting Tour of Cheshire" complete with a little trolley bus to spirit you around to different businesses? how cool! so do yourself a favor and ske-daddle over to Cheshire if you have a bit of time to hang out....and keep my list of faves handy..and as always i would LOVE to hear from you if there are any that i left off..until then Happy trails and good eating...and Viva Cheshire Bridge!...mama loves you..lol

Neighborhood Hot Spots: Historic Norcross
I love historic neighborhoods that have a modern feel...you know the type places..cobblestone walkways...shopowners that holler "howdy!" as you come in the door..eating places where the owners and waitstaff know your name...my little one and i hang in these type areas of town all the time..i have my top faves and thought i would share with you....first out of the chute is Historic Norcross...it is the type place that takes you back in time..(in a good way lol)..the houses are absolutely gorgeous..there are craftsman stunners and historic houses that have been lovingly restored...beautiful bungalows and all other types of goodies inbetween...the neatest thing of all is it is a bonafide community feel..the townfolks walk to the shops and restaraunts from their home and the kids all know each other..how cool is that? my fave restaraunts are listed as follows:
Mojitos - cuban
Dominicks' - italian
Paizano's - (Kissing cousin to the chi-town institution) - italian
Bleu House Cafe - lunch and sandwich spot
Norcross Station Cafe - the menu is amazingly diverse
Northern Star Coffeehouse - cool spot to kick back, have a cup of joe and enjoy the free wi-fi
Thrasher park - trust me the kiddes will love this hot-kiddie spot
Run don't walk to this best kept secret in the Atlanta metro area..it is quite tucked away but easy to find..right off Peachtree Industrial/Medlock Bridge...here's the neighborhood website..

Neighborhood Hot Spots - Compilation of my Faves
Historic Virginia Highland is one of Atlanta's most popular neighborhood for shopping, dining and nightlife. It consists of seven distinct commercial "villages" alternating with short, walkable blocks of charming bungalow homes. Charming sidewalk cafes, cocktails at lively night spots, and innovative cuisine at progressive restaurants and bistros. In addition there are world class salons, boutiques and antique shopping, full service day salons. See all there is to see and do at http://www.virginiahighland.com/attr_rest.html
Historic College Park
Yum! i love The Feed store (the fried green tomatoes), Noodle, and the Pecan. A stone's throw away is Evans Bake shop and Thumbs up Diner; and in Hapeville don't miss Buttersweet Bakery, Jamaica Cove and the ubiquitous Chic-Fil-A dwarf house for (drum roll please) FRIED SWEET POTATO PIES. Did I say yum? Yum!! Come take a stroll when coming back from a long trip at Hartsfield or when you have a day to while away...Historic College Park thanks for making the So'side shine!
Historic Duluth is a collection of unique shops, restaraunts and living spaces that create a quaint walking experience and delicious food. Experience historic duluth at
http://www.duluthga.net/dt/main_street/hdt.html
Historic Norcross is a quaint section of Norcross off N. Cementary and Buford Hwy. It is absolutely charming and chock full of delicious restaraunts including Station Cafe, Mojito's cuban cafe, Northern Star Coffehouse, Paizano's and many others. Yum! i love The Feed store (the fried green tomatoes), Noodle, and the Pecan.
