Bold Shopping Spots for the Fellas
well rest assured your girl has got you! i have compiled a list of some of the hottest stores in town that cater to the well dressed ATL type dude...these speciality stores are some of Atlanta's best kept secrets..and they don't order many of the same item, so you can be confident that when you slide into the club and the ladies gasp at your freshness..you won't see another brotha across the room in the exact same outfit! lol
so without further prologue..here are some spots that ATLBROWNGIRL has checked out for you...these are my top recommendations for places to get the newest kicks, interview suit or an outfit that will make you the freshest at the party..
A. Dom's 2591 Piedmont Rd, Suite 1110, Atlanta, GA 30324
Sexxy!! good lord..Where else can a dapper man get assistance with his suit game 24 hours a day? No where else but this very innovative boutique that offers said fashion assistance to a brotha..24 hours a day! This is the Atl's best kept secret. The businessman that opened this shop has long been on the speed dial of some of Atlanta's best dressed celebrities..now he is bringing his savvy straight to those discriminating brothas here in Atlanta that want to want access to style at their convenience...Genius!

Southern Charm
Places worth the Drive to hangout for a day:
Palmetto - the houses in this little oasis of serenity are positively breathtaking..from the urban chi-chi lofts, Greencraft expansive homes, brownstones... to old fashioned mansions..this planned community is definitely worth taking a drive for...make sure you get good directions though, as it is off the beaten path but definitely worth the trip..esp if the Serenbe farmhouse is open for you to stop by and take a sip and sample some of their straight from their own farm to table concept
Newnan - one of my top faves down south for shopping..all the chain dept stores are represented including expansive reps of
TJ Maxx
Kohls
Target
Ross
Old Navy
AND a brand new mall..check out the strip mall on the opposite side of the highway near Walmart..it has a host of your fave chain restaurants which make Newnan a fun spot to kick it for a day
Fayetteville-one word..the Fayetteville Pavilion..it is shopping nirvana!
Old National Highway- Ok..i know what you are thinking..it is quite urban..and an adventure for the typical suburbanite..but Old Natty as the natives call it is coming up! down by the New Walmart they are freshening up this tried and true route...and don't miss Grown Folks and the Crowe's Nest for some real grown folk partying..and closer to 285 if you have a spirit of adventure the Discount Mall can reveal some heart stopping discounts...when you need something to chow down on...love Blue Crabs to go (Hey Ms. Linda!), there is a wing place in the parking lot of Throwbacks.. and that leads me to my other fave which is a stone's throw away:
Historic College Park on Main Street-The Feed Store..The Brake Pad..Noodle..The Pecan
Stop by! then roll on to:
Hapeville - Chic Fil-A Dwarf House..Jamaica Cove...Maritza and Franks...Buttersweet Bakery
And go see the renovation down to the old Ford factory..It's now lofts and brownstones!
Virginia Ave -Spondivits...Grecian Gyro...Michon's...Barbecue Kitchen..Simon's steak and Seafood
Downtown East Point- Q's restaurant...Thumbs Up Diner...E'Vans Bake Shop

The Varsity 61 North Ave NW (404) 881-1706
Greasy, fun favorites include the chili-cheese steak (a diminutive hamburger with chili and American or pimiento cheese), crispy batter-fried onion rings and a defiantly messy slaw dog. Wash it all down with the locally renowned FO, or frosted orange, and finish with a fried apple pie.
The Fickle Pickle 1085 Canton Street, Roswell 30075 770-650-9838
Hours: Open seven days a week from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
The restaurant is in an old home, so it doesn’t feel like the same old place. The kids will love checking out all the action – watching other people definitely makes for an interesting pastime. The kid’s menu has tons of variety. Each meal comes with chips, a cookie and drink, and is only $4.95. Red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing and chewy cookies will complete your meal, but be sure to order them with your meal – they tend to sell out of the crowd favorites.

Places to Have a Slam Bam Partay!
I planned my Man’s birthday party and we had a blast! 75 guests ate, drank and danced the nite away at a Super Soul 70’s costume party Halloween nite..It was at one of the sexxxiest event spots in town – Utopia Martinis and Tapas lounge.
I have another event underway for one my dearest friends to celebrate her big 4-0 birthday in December which happens to be the day before my bday! Lastly, I am working with one of my cousins on a “Singles Explosion”. It will be a big mixer for all the Sexxy Atlanta Singles. More details to come…
In planning all these soirees, I realized something. Atlanta has some of the best party spots in the entire Southeast! Here are a few of my faves. Shout your girl out if you have others to suggest!

WISH
447 Moreland Ave. 404-880-0402. www.wishatl.com.
Not always noticed because of its house-like appearance (which was once actually a public library), this cutting-edge store offers various hard-to-find labels. Although it has some great pieces of clothing, it’s the perfect place to fulfill anyone’s sneaker fetish. The carefully selected limited-edition footwear brands are absolutely amazing and include rare brands such as Nike QS, Adidas Consortium and Vans Vault. If you want a one-of-a-kind sneaker, this is where it’s at!
Stefan’s Vintage Clothing
The oldest vintage store in
Vinnie’s Styles
1120
The staff in this store doesn’t play around when it comes to men’s denim and tees, Vinnie’s specialties. Offering hot urban attire with brands such as Paulie’s,
The Pink Zebra Boutique
We love this funky little place! If the zebra print on the outside isn’t inviting enough, then just wait until you walk inside and find a friendly staff and fun jewelry. It offers a world of unique accessories, a wide variety of funky shoes and don’t even get us started on the handbag selection. Purses galore!
Bill Hallman
792 N.
Crisp and cool are the perfect words to describe this trendy decently priced boutique. Designer Bill Hallman offers a great collection of his line, as well as brands like Diesel and Seven. The trendy shop also stocks all the new hip labels of the moment.
Mooncake Clothing Co.
We love this place for its pretty but scavenger-hunt appeal. Here you’ll find a myriad of pieces—from some that harken old English to bridal dresses to trendy lightweight jackets. The variety is appreciated by any shopper looking to stand out in a crowd, and “the moon girls” create a fun and friendly staff who provides an eye for eccentric and electric items.
Honey Butter
The feel of this little shop is like a long walk in closet full of funky surprises that you will catch no one else wearing (yes!). Fun tops, dresses and shoes are everywhere. Toward the back of the store are adorable accessories and home decor to brighten your home. The warm, pleasant colors create a calming atmosphere to browse the racks for hours.

Ways to Save. Tips to tighten your belt in an Uncertain Economy
TOP WAYS TO SAVE MONEY IN UNCERTAIN TIMES
*I only go to the ATM once after payday. i take out enough cash for the week and keep it in an envelope..when we run out, we wait till the next payday to hang out
*we go to alot of free stuff..festivals...parks and shopping malls to just hang out
*i fill my gas tank once a week
*i buy gift cards for amazing restaurants at www.halfoffdepot.com
*we buy late model cars at discount car lots..Carmax is awesome!
*i have a budget that i prepare 3 months at a time..i earmark only a certain amount for "fun money" each payday
*we buy our cars at the end of the model year or the last few days of the year and drive them till we pay them off
*we have a discount car insurance (Geico is way cool)
*we use a babysitter who charges a flat rate fee rather than per hour
*i never buy breakfast during the week. i make my own coffee and cook my own muffins, bring fruit, yogurt, granola, english muffins, oatmeal for a healthy breakfast..i save the weekends for a splurge for brunch!
*i try new places at lunch when typically the menu options are much cheaper
*i search the web for special days when special places (Fernbank, Imagine IT museum, Zoo atlanta) offer discounts
*i grocery shop once a month and buy in bulk from major discounters (I am a big fan of super Walmart)
*i shop for papergoods and cleaning supplies at family dollar and big lots
*i only shop for furniture at major discount retailers (Rooms to Go outlet and Big lots have quality furniture at a steal)
*we book Vacation packages thru Orbitz, Travelocity and Expedia..typically you can save a bundle if you book airline tickets, the hotel and rental car as a package
*we take vacations off season
*everytime i break a big bill i save all the singles and deposit them in a savings fund at the end of the month
*i love to shop..but i only shop at off-price discount chains (the designer brand selections are amazing..but you have to dig)
*i shop off-season..on the regular i shop for winter clothes when they are slashed to make room for summer clothes and vice versa..i peruse the fashion magazines to stay in touch with what will be trendy for the season and buy accessories to keep my wardrobe fresh...
*my new clothes purchase are minimal..but shoes..well erra that's another story...lol..i shop my fave designers (liz claiborne flex, dr. scholls, tory burch, steve madden, aerosoles at outlets and at the major stores during their seasonal sales)
*i typically buy fragrances once a season and i love body oil! 1/8 the price of major cologne brands
*everytime i have loose change i save it in a big jar and cash it in at my credit union and deposit the total in a savings fund
*i believe in managed health care..my employer has an HMO that i am a member of and i find the absolute best doctors in network and pay a flat rate for deductible visits..visit my primary care dr for everything...and pay rock bottom prices for dental visits...
*i take natural supplements to stay healthy...i also eat reasonably well, floss like a fiend and get plenty of rest to cut down on seasonal ailments and surprise visits to the dentist..and i am religious about hand sanitizer..germs live everywhere and it only takes a sec for you to catch something icky..lol
*i pray, meditate and exercise to cut down on stress...it's amazing the ailments that everyday stress can cause! the mantra i chant is "this too shall pass"..lol
*i ask my doc for samples of prescriptions during drs visits to cut down on visits to the pharmacy
*you have a checking account that is fee-free right? no? run to your local credit union! lol
*i have a Health Savings fund thru my employer that i use for pre-tax dollars..when i pay my deductible for any prescriptions or dr visits the fund pays me back by depositing the amount back in my checking account
*i also have a Dependent care account thru my employer..same concept using pre-tax dollars..all after school care monies i pay are directly deposited back into my checking account at a time i choose
*i set my kid's expectations low for toys..before we enter the store he repeats the rules "No means no...when it's time to go, it's time to go..and no whining and crying for anything" ..try it...the little ones get it really quickly.. lol....
*Repeat after me...coupons are your friend...lol
*i have one major credit card..we plan major purchases and pay them off within 30 days before the interest kicks in..repeat after me....installment agreements with interest are evil unless in emergency situations...lol..and yes that includes big screen tvs
*i estimate all the tax deductions i'm entitled to upfront (i have very smart tax accountants on my speed dial) and get all my money from Uncle Sam upfront in my paycheck...my tax refund is minimal and i love to "break even"...many may argue with me...if you disagree fine...plan to use your tax refund for that major purchase you've been salivating over like that flat screen tv instead of putting the purchase on a credit card and paying for it for the next 5 years...lol
*i wait until tax free weekends once a year to buy major computer purchases
*i utilize budget billing for all my utilities..esp the power bill and gas co
*we bundle services thru our cable company for phone, dsl and cable services
*i work out at home..no monthly gym fees! i even use the neighborhood pool if i need a change of pace
Repeat after me..the Dollar store is your friend..lol

GRAB GRANDMAW AND HEAD TO THE FARM!
With fall coming, one of my very fave things to do is go out to one of the local farms and go ahuntin’ for a pumpkin. Sound corny? It is! But great fun…lol….Many of the local farms in the area bring in extra revenue by having berry/apple picking in the summer and pumpkin patches in the fall.
For all the cityfied cynics….Have you ever done a hayride? If not get thyself there! The kids love it..you ride a tractor trailer, everyone jumps out and runs wild trying to get the best pumpkin, you jump back on and end up back at the start for homemade icecream, apple cider or some other delight..and normally there is a petting farm of animals..so grab your overalls (ok you really don't have to wear overalls..lol) and welcome Fall by heading out to one of the local spots to get your Pumpkin patch on! You have plenty of time to prepare as the pumpkins are just now growing and will not be available till mid-late September….CALL AHEAD TO GET THE OPERATING HOURS…

It is very child friendly and has hay rides. Also, about 15-20 minutes away there is a great place to go for apples/apple cider/individual fried apple pies, etc. - it's called Panorama there are several apple places near Burt's to buy apples if you want to do it all in one day, but the most kid friendly is Burt’s farm…Opens September 1st

Washington Farms opens up their Athens/Watkinsville Farm for pumpkins in late fall…. Kids love the pumpkins, hayrides, a petting zoo, regular play ground, a corn maze, and the cow train which was a hit with my little ones. They are not open on Sundays, though, so you would want to go early on a Saturday or not too close to Halloween or it will get crowded. Opens late September for pumpkin picking…
Cagle's Dairy Farm. 362 Stringer Rd., Canton, GA 30115 (770)345-5591 http://www.caglesdairy.com/
They show how they fill milk containers. Let you feed calves. Hay ride through the farm with a sheep dog demonstration. The hay ride stops at the pig race. They race for chocolate milk. There is a victory garden, original from WWII, that is explained. Last year there was a big bouncy for the kids. Extra fee for a pony ride. You can buy sausage sandwich and BBQ sandwich. Purchase already picked pumpkins. A fun little country store. Okay you see I enjoy the experience at Cagle's Farm
Uncle Bob's Farms. 3781 E. Happy Valley Circle, Newnan, GA 30263770-253-8100 http://www.uncle-bob.com/
Tractor-pulled hayrides, Choose pumpkins from their extensive store area, or roam the fields to find your own. Their store also carries lots of other farm products and homemade, as well as Halloween/fall decorations.Additionally, there was a haybale maze for small kids, cornstalk maze for bigger ones, puppet show (cheesy, but the kids liked it), spinning demonstration (the farmer's wife spun hair directly off the bunny's hind end while it sat on her alp, which made an impression on me if not the kids), and if I remember correctly bees & honey demo (although that might have been at another farm, I'm not sure). It was a nice drive out there, as well. Opens for pumpkins late September….
Southern Belle Farm. 1658 Turner Church Rd. McDonough, GA 30252 http://www.southernbellefarm.com/ (770) 898-0999

Playground Picks - The New Social Hotspot for the Kiddies! :-)
Top Playground Picks: Indoor
During the cold of the winter, indoor play areas are the perfect places to take your kids. Two of my faves are the areas in North Point Mall and the Mall of Georgia.
Mall of Georgia’s Kidgits Korner. 3333 Buford Drive, Buford. This soft play area is designed for the toddler age group. Climbing and sliding are the main attractions here. There are benches for the parents, as well as stroller parking. There’s also a small library for all to enjoy. 678-482-8788.
North Point Mall Children’s Soft Play Area. 1000 North Point Circle, Alpharetta. Specifically designed for children under 42" tall, the play area has a heroes theme, with firefighters, a fire truck and an ambulance as well as a slide and a bridge to climb over and through. All are built with soft materials to protect against falls. The play area also has plenty of seating for parents plus stroller parking. 770-740-9273.
Top Playground Picks: Special Needs
Children’s Playgarden. Ephesus Church Road, Douglasville. This playground in Clinton Nature Preserve features an airplane structure that allows children who use wheelchairs to access slides and other play items. Swings with back support, musical instruments, a covered playhouse, tot area and sand play area round out the other playground amenities. Water misters are also available for the really hot days. All of the equipment on this playground is wheelchair accessible.
Unity Place. 143 Ozora Road, Grayson. Located in Bay Creek Park, this playground has a wheelchair accessible sandbox and play area. The slides use ramps to reach the top. Swings with mesh backing are lower to the ground, so they are easily accessible for special needs kids. 770-822-8840.
All Children’s Playground. Willowbend Road, Peachtree City. This playground features a rubberized surface that allows wheelchairs easy maneuverability. To ensure that every child can have fun, the entire play area is connected by ramps and bridges, and a tot lot is available for younger kids. 770-631-2542.
Top Playground Picks: Outdoor play!
Dunwoody
Brook Run Park. A true kiddie hot spot. multiple playgrounds for big and little kids and lots of space for dogs (or little kiddies) to run. A must do!
Chastain Park. Amazing! play on the equipment or walk the trail around the park. If the ball fields nearby are empty, your little ones can poke around there and kick/throw a ball around.
Stone Mountain
Stone Mountain Park. Swings, winding wooden steps and various sized slides there’s plenty to entertain even the most active child. There is so much to do at Stone Mountain Park that often we forget about the playground there. But it's a great place for the kids to run around and play, especially the little ones who may not be able to take part in some other activities or who don't want to stand in line.
Midtown
Piedmont Park. Open spaces for running, paths for bike riding, fishing, birdwatching and great playgrounds.
Va Highland
Cunard Memorial Park. After a tree fell on the family car and killed a mother and her 2 sons, the community rallied together and built this playground. What a beautiful way tribute.
Orme Park. 795 Brookridge Drive NE, Atlanta. This playground is situated in the heart of the Virginia-Highland. This shady playground – truly a neighborhood gem – has a little something for everyone, including swings for toddlers, older kids and parents, picnic tables, a playscape with a telescope feature, slides and monkey bars and the ever-popular sandbox. The park also features a nature area, perfect for walking the family pet or just exploring on your own.
Norcross
Best Friend Park. 6224 Jimmy Carter Boulevard, Norcross. This 43-acre park is home to an aquatic center, tennis center and community building. The pool provides an interactive play center and there is a separate swing area. The playground features slides, climbing structures and more. 770-417-2212.
Jones Bridge Park. 4901 East Jones Bridge Road, Norcross. The playground has three wooden play stations with a swinging bridge, a big twisty slide, monkey bars, climbing poles and more. A swing set and sand volleyball court add even more options for play. A shaded area with benches and picnic tables is close by for parents to watch their children play. And if you’re the proud parent of an angler, there’s a fishing hole here, too! 770-417-2212.
Downtown
Centennial Park. Baker Street and Centennial Olympic Park Drive, Atlanta. Less than a block from the children’s museum is a hidden gem of a playground in Centennial Olympic Park. Kids can hop, skip and jump on two playscapes. The playground features three slides, a bridge, a zip line and several towers where children can play tic-tac-toe and peer through Plexiglas windows. The bouncy ground covering is sure to cushion any falls. Benches for parents ring the play area. 404-222-7275.
Atlanta Botanical Garden Discover 21 collections of flora at the 30-year-old facility. The favorite destination for your kids will be, no doubt, the two-acre Children’s Garden; here youngsters can play in the fountain, tend to veggies, perform on stage and more. Located at 1345 Piedmont Ave. NE in midtown Atlanta. Summer hours are Tues.-Sun., 9 a.m.-7 p.m. For more information, call 404-876-5859 or visit www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org.
Roswell
Chattahoochee River Park. 203 Azalea Drive, Roswell. Situated along the Chattahoochee River, the park offers a relaxing scene with plenty of covered resting spots for a picnic lunch or small gathering. A popular spot on the playground is a tiny bridge overlooking a stream that flows into the river. Kids can toss rocks into the stream or watch for fish jumping in the Hooch. In the play area the equipment includes swings, slides and mini climbing walls. 770-641-3705.
Fairburn
Clarence Duncan Memorial Park. 6000 Rivertown Road, Fairburn. The park’s playground equipment includes teeter-totters, swings, a swinging bridge, monkey bars and more. Benches and picnic pavilions are located close to the playground so parents can sit in a shady area and watch their children play. If you’re bringing a picnic, throw in some extra bread for the pond’s ducks. The park also features hiking trails and an indoor pool, so bring your swimming suits along. 770-306-3136.
Howell Mill Road
Ellsworth Park. Howell Mill Rd. at Collier Rd. NW, Atlanta. There’s lots to explore in this fenced-in area: a fort-like play structure with two slides, climbing wall and interactive features, swings for toddlers and older kids, spring toys, two spinner bowls and a teeter-totter. For moms, it’s a great meeting place for mom’s groups, play dates and picnics. And, all of the play equipment rests on recycled rubber material, which is bouncy and wheelchair accessible. 404-817-6734.
Austell
Hurt Road Park. 990 Hurt Road SW, Austell. This playground offers something for all ages. Bucket swings and sand play will occupy the little ones while older kids tackle the monkey bars, slides, tic-tac-toe, tunnel and a swing set of their own. Parents can watch their children play while relaxing on a shaded bench. 770-528-8890.
Suwanee
PlayTown Suwanee. 425 Main Street, Suwanee. This 10,000-square-foot multi-level wooden wonderland is a treasure trove of things to do, including six slides (even "wavy and twisty" ones), a vertical tunnel, several bridges, swings, ladders, a rock climbing wall, chin up bars, and rings. In addition, there is a bus, castle, rocket, ship, playhouses, sand box and a hidden phone system. 770-945-8996.
Marietta
Promised Land Playground. 2450 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta. Constructed entirely of wood, the 10,000-square-foot playground readily inspires imaginative play. The entire play area is connected with bridges or elevated walkways, each leading to a castle-like area. Speaker boxes allow communication between different areas. Around the wooden complex are two swing and slide areas – one for toddlers and another for older children. A layer of wood chips provides ample cushion below. 770-971-2323.
East Cobb Park 3322 Roswell Rd Marietta, GA 30062-5561 multiple age-appropriate play structures, bike/walk trail around the park, clean restrooms, a babbling stream for wading, plus plenty of open space for picnicking and kicking a ball - what more could you ask for?
